In this slightly off-beat film, a SAMURAI Warrior from the SENGOKU period finds himself suddenly in 20th century Los Angeles after being frozen for 400 years. Playing the lead role in this film gave Fujioka his first taste of participation in international films. Also, he was grateful for the chance to put his own talents for martial arts to use. For his role, he received the Criticfs choice award at the Paris International SF Film Festival in 1985.

Fujioka co-starred in a drama set in the SENGOKU period (1580) about conflicts between the famous warlords of the time, he played Nobunaga Oda who was betrayed and murdered by one of his trusted subordinates.
This one of the most sought after roles available in Japanese historical productions. Fujiokafs portrayal was so successful that since then his name comes to mind whenever the name of Nobunaga is mentioned.

Kaikyo means echannelf as in the English Channel between England and France.The setting is the extreme northern part of Japan, in which the main industry is fishing. The problems faced today by these fishermen in Japan forms the underlying theme for the film. The character portrayed by Fujioka has committed a murder many years ago, an in escaping his past he finds himself going north to live among these fishermen and becoming intimately involved in the problems of the area. He also falls in love with one of the women there, delivering an intense portrayal of a character often described as primitive.

Musashi was noted for his simplicity of heart and habit, and also for his tendency to pursue a goal wholeheartedly and directly.
